Become A Travel Agent

Every day people ask me how to become a travel agent. And then come a bunch of questions. It seems that they have been reading so much junk information on the internet that they are confused. I always answer their questions honestly, even if it is not what they want to hear.

First, let me say that my remarks are based on things as they relate to residents of the United States. I am not familiar with conditions in other countries.

The first question to be answered is, do you want to become a travel agent, or do you want to have your own travel agency. Frankly, setting up your own agency is relatively very expensive and fraught with regulations and requirements. For example, one of the requirement for getting an IATA number (not an IATA Card) is that you must have two years experience or you must hire a manager who does.

So, for now let’s confine our discussion to talking about how to become a travel agent.

More later…
